DOI: 10.15560/19.6.833

Authors: Danniella Sherwood, Yuri M. Marusik, Adam Sharp

Abstract: Clubiona hitchinsi Saaristo, 2002, previously known from the Seychelles and French Polynesia, is newly recorded from Ascension Island, based on comparison of the Ascension specimens against two paratypes. The first detailed figures of the endogyne, based on a paratype, are provided. Characters in this species not found in European species of Clubiona Latreille, 1804 but found in the misplaced hystrix-group in Asia—namely the presence of a spine at the tip of the cymbium, retrolateral tibial apophysis with spine-like tip, and presence of a keel on the tegulum in the male, and copulatory ducts running on the posterior side in the genitalia of the female—are discussed.

Xysticus grallator Simon, 1932 new to mainland Italy (Araneae, Thomisidae) https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/105542/ Check List 19(5): 713-718

DOI: 10.15560/19.5.713

Authors: Tobias Bauer, Raffaele Falato, Paolo Pantini

Abstract: Xysticus grallator Simon, 1932 is a little-known species of crab spider distributed in the western Mediterranean region. We present new records of this species from mainland Italy, together with images of living and preserved specimens, the copulatory organs, and the habitat. A map of literature records provides insights into the known distribution of this species. Additionally, we show that a historical record of Xysticus pavesii O. Pickard- Cambridge, 1873 by L. di Caporiacco is misidentified and in fact the first record of X. grallator on the Italian Peninsula.

DOI: 10.15560/19.2.141

Authors: Pedro Peñaherrera-R., Ariel Guerrero-Campoverde, Roberto J. León-E., Diego F. Cisneros-Heredia

Abstract: We present the first record of Holothele longipes (L. Koch, 1875) (Araneae, Theraphosidae) from the Republic of Ecuador, based on a male specimen collected near Puerto Misahuallí, province of Napo, in the north-eastern foothills of the Andes, upper River Napo basin. This new record extends the geographic range of H. longipes by approximately 554 km west of the nearest previously known locality, on the River Momón, department of Loreto, Peru. Our new record also represents the first time a species of the theraphosid subfamily Ischnocolinae has been found in Ecuador.

Rediscovery of the extremely rare running crab spider Philodromus (Artanes) poecilus (Thorell, 1872) in Bavaria, Germany, after 141 years (Araneae, Philodromidae) https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/79228/ Check List 18(3): 583-591

DOI: 10.15560/18.3.583

Authors: Tobias Bauer, Hans-Jürgen Thorns, Jürgen Guttenberger

Abstract: Philodromus poecilus (Thorell, 1872) is a Transeurasian species reported from most parts of Europe except the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula. Although widely distributed, this species is extremely rarely recorded in Germany and neighbouring countries. In Bavaria, it has not been found since the time of Ludwig Koch (1825–1908). Recently, sev-eral specimens were collected from urban plane trees in Deggendorf (Lower Bavaria), proving that the species is still present in Bavaria. Additionally, images of the copulatory organs and of living and preserved specimens are presented, as is a compilation of records in Germany and neighbouring countries.

New distribution record of Bicolored Trailing Ant, Monomorium floricola (Jerdon, 1851) (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) from Ecuador, with information on cohabitation with the social spider Anelosimus eximius (Keyserling, 1884) https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/81360/ Check List 18(2): 399-404

DOI: 10.15560/18.2.399

Authors: Pablo Sebastián Padrón, Lucía Vanessa Ortiz, Pamela Estefanía Andrade, José Manuel Falcón, Anja Junghanns

Abstract: Invasive ant species are a serious threat to native fauna, especially in highly diverse tropical countries. Therefore, new distribution reports and information on the interactions with other species are essential to understand the potential effects of invasive ants on biodiversity. Here we report for the first time the presence of colonies of Monomorium floricola (Jerdon, 1851) in the nest of the Neotropical social spider Anelosimus eximius (Keyserling, 1884) in the southern part of the Ecuadorian Amazon. Our report extends the known distributional range of M. floricola to the southern Ecuador.

Walckenaeria stylifrons and Spiracme mongolica (Araneae, Linyphiidae, Thomisidae), two new species to Slovakia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/70547/ Check List 17(6): 1601-1608

DOI: 10.15560/17.6.1601

Authors: Pavol Purgat, Peter Gajdoš, Adrián Purkart, Natália Hurajtová, Ľubomír Volnár, Katarína Krajčovičová

Abstract: The spiders Walckenaeria stylifrons (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1875) and Spiracme mongolica (Schenkel, 1963) are reported from Slovakia for the first time. These new records are based on adult males found in Western Slovakia in xerothermic habitats. The occurrence of W. stylifrons in Slovakia fills the gap in its distribution in Pannonian Basin and between Austria and Ukraine. Spiracme mongolica has been known only from the Balkans and south-eastern part of Europe to central Asia, this is the first record for Central Europe. We suggest Spiracme mongolica (Schenkel, 1963) new combination for Xysticus mongolicus Schenkel, 1963. Characteristic features, photographs of habitus and copulatory organs, and habitats of the new records are presented.

New records of Cladomelea from South Africa, including the first records of C. longipes (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1877) (Araneae, Araneidae) outside its type locality https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/46529/ Check List 15(6): 1071-1075

DOI: 10.15560/15.6.1071

Authors: Anna Sophia Dippenaar-Schoeman, Stefan Hendrik Foord

Abstract: We present the first records of the bolas spider, Cladomelea longipes (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1877), beyond its type locality, resulting in a considerable extension of its geographic range in Africa. We compare C. longipes with the two other species of Cladomelea known from South Africa, C. akermani Hewitt, 1923 and C. debeeri Roff & Dippenaar-Schoeman, 2004. Images of live specimens and a distribution map are provided. Cladomelea longipes is very rare locally but has a relatively large geographical distribution in the Afrotropical Region.

First record of Epicadus trituberculatus (Taczanowski, 1872) (Araneae, Thomisidae, Stephanopinae) in the Brazilian Northeast https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/38680/ Check List 15(5): 937-940

DOI: 10.15560/15.5.937

Authors: Jober Fernando Sobczak, German Antonio Villanueva-Bonilla, Antonia Maia Larissa da Silva, Jullyana Cristina Magalhães Silva Moura Sobczak, Miguel Machado

Abstract: We present the first record of Epicadus trituberculatus (Taczanowski, 1872) from the Northeast Region of Brazil. The new record is based on six specimens observed in two areas of montane semi-deciduous tropical forest located in two municipalities: Guaramiranga and Pacatuba, Ceará state, Brazil. Of the six specimens observed we collected manually only three to preserve as voucher material. In Brazil, E. trituberculatus has a wide distribution range, which extends from the Atlantic Forest, Amazon, and Cerrado biomes and the Pampa ecoregion. With the new record there are currently six known species of Epicadus in northeastern Brazil.
