Abstract: The mainland of Sulawesi is well known for its high diversity of freshwater shrimps. However, many small islands surrounding Sulawesi have been neglected and have not been unexplored. Here, we report on the freshwater shrimps of the Banggai Archipelago, eastern Sulawesi, based on field collections between 2017 and 2019 on four islands, Peleng, Labobo, Bangkurung, and Banggai. Eleven species were found: Caridina brevidactyla J. Roux, 1920, Caridina brevicarpalis De Man, 1892, Caridina gracilipes De Man, 1892, Caridina gracilirostris De Man, 1892, Caridina serratirostris De Man, 1892, Caridina typus H. Milne Edwards, 1837, Caridina weberi De Man, 1892, Macrobrachium australe (Guérin-Méneville, 1838), Macrobrachium equidens (Dana, 1852), Macrobrachium lar (Fabricius, 1798), and Macrobrachium latidactylus (Thallwitz, 1891). One species, C. brevidactyla, is a newly recorded from Sulawesi. Knowledge of the diversity of the freshwater shrimp fauna can contribute to the conservation of species and their habitats.

First record of Macrobrachium grandimanus (Randall, 1840) (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae) from Guam, Micronesia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/63277/ Check List 17(3): 759-763

DOI: 10.15560/17.3.759

Abstract: The Hawaiian river shrimp Macrobrachium grandimanus (Randall, 1840) is an amphidromous brackish water prawn that inhabits the Hawaiian Islands (type locality), Ryukyu Islands, Melanesia (Fiji, New Caledonia), and Polynesia (Tonga). Here, we report a new record of this species from Guam, Micronesia. Two genetically and morphologically differentiated lineages of this species are known: the Hawaiian and the Ryukyu lineages. Morphological and mitochondrial DNA analyses revealed that the Guam population is closely related to the Ryukyu lineage.

Updated checklist of estuarine caridean shrimps (Decapoda: Caridea) from the southern region of Laguna Madre, Tamaulipas, Mexico, with new records and a key for taxonomic identification https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/24600/ Check List 14(2): 479-494

DOI: 10.15560/14.2.479

Authors: Hiram Herrera-Barquín, Antonio Leija-Tristán, Susana Favela-Lara

Abstract: We provide an updated list of the caridean shrimp species from the southern region of the Laguna Madre, Tamaulipas, Mexico, along with a key for taxonomic identification. The survey was conducted in 3 sites during 3 temporal seasons. A total of 2,989 specimens were collected belonging to 12 species, 6 genera, and to the following 4 families: Alpheidae, Hippolytidae, Palaemonidae, and Processidae. Hippolytidae was the most abundant family, followed by Palaemonidae, Alpheidae, and Processidae. The hippolytid Hippolyte obliquimanus Dana, 1852, the palaemonids Palaemon floridanus Chace, 1942, and P. northropi (Rankin, 1898), and the alpheid Alpheus cf. packardii Kingsley, 1880 represent new records for the Laguna Madre and selected areas of the Gulf of Mexico.

Abstract: Among the species belonging to the genus Macrobrachium Spence Bate, 1868, M. carcinus (Linnaeus, 1758) and M. olfersii (Wiegmann, 1836) are geographically widespread in the western Atlantic from the Gulf Coast to southern Brazil. We describe the current geographic distribution of M. carcinus and M. olfersii and include records of these species in the state of Maranhão, Brazil.
