Abstract: Saddle Barb, Barbodes sellifer, is a freshwater fish endemic to Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian archipelago and is here recorded for the first time from Belitung Island, Indonesia. This is a range extension of about 300 km to the southeast from the closest previously known locality on Bangka Island, and, in addition to reporting its occurrence on another island of the Indonesian archipelago, this is the southernmost known locality for the species. We also provide an updated map showing the species’ distribution.

First record of the vulnerable freshwater fish Lobocheilos falcifer (Valenciennes, 1842) (Teleostei, Cyprinidae) in Sumatra, Indonesia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/97576/ Check List 19(1): 51-55

DOI: 10.15560/19.1.51

Authors: Veryl Hasan, Felipe P. Ottoni, Josie South

Abstract: Lobocheilos falcifer (Valenciennes, 1842) is a freshwater fish endemic to the island of Java, Indonesia, and has been assessed as Vulnerable according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature criteria. In May 2022, a male specimen of L. falcifer was collected in the Way Sekampung River, Lampung Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. This represents the first record of this species outside of Java. This new record expanded the species distribution about 300 km to the north, and to an additional island within the Indonesian archipelago. The occurrence of this species on the island of Sumatra likely changes its conservation status; thus, new conservation actions may be more appropriate for the species and its known populations. The presence of L. falcifer on separate islands indicates that biogeographic interpretations of Indonesian fishes may change and highlights the need for urgent study of freshwater biodiversity in the region.

Expanding the geographical distribution of Rhynchocypris czekanowskii (Dybowski, 1869) (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae) in the basin of the Yenisei River, Eastern Siberia, Russia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/33193/ Check List 15(3): 369-374

DOI: 10.15560/15.3.369

Authors: Ivan Vladimirovich Zuev, Sergei Mikhailovich Chuprov, Anastasiya Vyacheslavovna Zueva

Abstract: The currently known geographical distribution of Chekanovskii’s Minnow, Rhynchocypris czekanowskii (Dybowski, 1869), is limited only by the lower reaches of the arctic river basins in which this species lives. We report R. czekanowskii from the small water bodies of middle part of Yenisei river basin, expanding its distribution to the south of the river basin to 55°51ʹ41ʺ N latitude, more than 100 km south from previously known occurrences of this species.

First record of the Conchos Shiner Cyprinella panarcys (Hubbs & Miller, 1978) from the mainstem of the Rio Grande along the USA–Mexico border https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/29309/ Check List 14(6): 1123-1129

DOI: 10.15560/14.6.1123

Authors: Amanda K. Pinion, Stephanie D. George, Joshuah S. Perkin, Kevin W. Conway

Abstract: Cyprinella panarcys is considered to be endemic to the upper Río Conchos drainage of Mexico. A single individual of C. panarcys was collected from the Rio Grande along the USA–Mexico international border (Presidio Co., Texas) in April 2018. This is the first record of C. panarcys from outside of the Río Conchos and the first record from the USA. A brief description of the external morphology of the individual collected is provided along with an updated distribution map for the species.

Crossocheilus obscurus Tan & Kottelat, 2009 (Teleostei, Cyprinidae): distribution extension and first record for Musi basin, South Sumatra, Indonesia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/23079/ Check List 13(6): 1121-1124

DOI: 10.15560/13.6.1121

Authors: Muhammad Iqbal, Indra Yustian, Winda Indriati, Doni Setiawan, Arum Setiawan

Abstract: Crossocheilus obscurus is a little known cyprinid fish which was first described in 2009 in the Batang Hari basin (West Sumatra province, Indonesia), with no additional published information since that time. In April 2016, C. obscurus was observed and photographed in the Musi basin (South Sumatra province). The identification of this species confirms its presence in a new river basin, more than 250 km south from its type locality.

First record of Lobocheilos ixocheilos Kottelat & Tan, 2008 (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae) in South Sumatra province, Indonesia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/22761/ Check List 13(6): 931-933

DOI: 10.15560/13.6.931

Authors: Muhammad Iqbal, Arum Setiawan, Ina Aprilia, Muhammad Isa, Indra Yustian

Abstract: Lobocheilos ixocheilos is only known from 2 major riverine systems in Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia. In Sumatra, it was previously known only from the Batang Hari basin and reported from localities in the provinces of West Sumatra and Jambi. This paper provides the first record of L. ixocheilos from the Musi basin in South Sumatra province, thereby extending the distribution of the species approximately 150 km southwest from the previous record.

The ichthyofauna of the Moksha River, a tributary of the Volga river basin, Russia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/19764/ Check List 13(4): 185-202

DOI: 10.15560/13.4.185

Authors: Oleg Artaev, Alexander B. Ruchin

Abstract: The results of an 11-year study of the ichthyofauna in the Moksha River (central part of European Russia) are described here. Thirty-seven species were recorded, including 34 present in rivers and 26 in lake systems. Relative abundance and the occurrence of fish species from different types of water bodies are provided and the diversity of the ichthyofauna for this region is discussed.
