Abstract: We present a list of amphibian and reptile species encountered from 16–20 July 2016 in the upper drainage of Río Guázaro, Parque Nacional Santa Fé, Veraguas, Panama. We collected 10 amphibian and 10 reptile species and observed three additional amphibian and one additional reptile species. Our collected material provides the first records from Veraguas province for the amphibians Bolitoglossa schizodactyla Wake & Brame, 1966 and Diasporus aff. quidditus (Lynch, 2001), as well as for the reptiles Basiliscus plumifrons Cope, 1876, Micrurus stewarti Barbour & Amaral, 1928, and Sibon argus (Cope, 1876). Although relatively small in species and specimen numbers, our collection represents the first documented herpetological inventory on the largely unexplored Caribbean versant of Veraguas in 50 years.

New localities, range extension, natural history, and conservation status of Nymphargus mixomaculatus (Guayasamin, Lehr, Rodriguez & Aguilar, 2006) https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/56260/ Check List 17(2): 407-414

DOI: 10.15560/17.2.407

Authors: Pablo Javier Venegas, Luis Alberto García-Ayachi

Abstract: We provide information on the distribution, natural history, and conservation status of Nymphargus mixomaculatus (Guayasamin, Lehr, Rodriguez & Aguilar, 2006), a species from central Peru which is currently considered as Critically Endangered. We report four new localities and extend the altitudinal distribution by 430 m and the geographic range by 513 km in a straight line northwest of the previous, only known locality. Furthermore, based on our new data and following the criteria and categories of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, we suggest that N. mixomaculatus should be recategorized as Vulnerable.

Abstract: Glass frogs (Centrolenidae) are widely distributed in the Neotropics. This study presents novel data on two centrolenid species of the genus Hyalinobatrachium Ruiz-Carranza & Lynch, 1991 collected during herpetofaunal surveys carried out in Brazilian Amazonia of the state of Amapá. Here we report the first record of Hyalinobatrachium cappellei (van Lidth de Jeude, 1904) and H. mondolfii Señaris & Ayarzagüena, 2001, extending the known distribution of H. mondolfii 264 km east and filing gaps in the distribution range of H. cappellei in eastern Amazonia.

Amphibia, Anura, Centrolenidae, Cochranella resplendens (Lynch & Duellman, 1973): first record from Brazil and updated map of the geographic distribution https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/51085/ Check List 16(4): 847-851

DOI: 10.15560/16.4.847

Authors: Carlos Eduardo Costa-Campos, Rodrigo Tavares Pinheiro, Santiago Castroviejo-Fisher

Abstract: Specimens of the glassfrog Cochranella resplendens (Lynch & Duellman, 1973) are known from 13 localities from Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Herein, we report the first Brazilian record, which extends the known distribution of the species 2,129 km to the east of the nearest record in Santa Rosa de Sucumbíos Río Rumiyacu, Valle del Guamués, Putumayo, Colombia.

Amphibians from Serrania de Las Quinchas, in the mid-Magdalena river valley, Colombia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/29066/ Check List 15(3): 387-404

DOI: 10.15560/15.3.387

Authors: Andrés Ovalle-Pacheco, Claudia Camacho-Rozo, Sandy Arroyo

Abstract: We studied the species of amphibians from Serranía de Las Quinchas, in the mid Magdalena Valley region of Colombia, comparing the data from a recent fieldwork with museum records and literature. We present a list of 50 species of amphibians (Anura and Caudata). In our survey, we recorded 36 species, of which 6 represented new records. One of the most interesting record is that of the genus Oedipina, since this is the first time the genus is recorded for the Cordillera Oriental. The number of species is what would be expected in a humid tropical forest of the mid-Magdalena river valley, given the co-occurrence of amphibian faunas distributed in the sub-Andean, Caribbean, and Chocó biogeographic regions.

Authors: Michelle E. Thompson, Guido F. Medina-Rangel, Diego H. Ruiz-Valderrama

Abstract: We report the first record of the Banded-limb Glassfrog, Hyalinobatrachium cappellei (Van Lidth de Jeude, 1904), in Colombia based on 2 specimens, 1 each from the municipalities of Cartagena del Chairá and Solano, department of Caquetá. The present record represents an additional amphibian species for the country, bringing the known total to 821 species and represents a massive range extension of 1,077 km southwest of the nearest known locality for H. cappellei in Venezuela.

Advertisement call and new distribution records from Brazil of Teratohyla midas (Lynch & Duellman, 1973) (Anura, Centrolenidae) https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/21789/ Check List 14(2): 303-308

DOI: 10.15560/14.2.303

Authors: Kássio Castro Araújo, André Pansonato, Rosa Hermina Oliveira, Drausio Honório Moraisa, Vinicius Tadeu Carvalho, Robson Waldemar Ávila

Abstract: Data on the distribution and calls of glassfrogs are important for taxonomic and conservation purposes. Herein, we describe the acoustic parameters of Teratohyla midas (Anura, Centrolenidae), with notes on distribution in the Brazilian states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, and Pará. The typical advertisement call of T. midas consists of a single pulsed note, with 3 pulses emitted in a very short emission. The advertisement calls of T. midas from Ecuador and French Guiana are distinct from those reported here.

Newly discovered population of Bumpy Glassfrog, Centrolene heloderma (Duellman, 1981), with discussion of threats to population persistence https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/20410/ Check List 14(1): 261-265

DOI: 10.15560/14.1.261

Authors: Katherine L. Krynak, Dana G. Wessels, Segundo M. Imba, Jane A. Lyons, Juan M. Guayasamin

Abstract: Since 2011, the Bumpy Glassfrog, Centrolene heloderma (Duellman, 1981) was known only from a single location in the Mindo region of Ecuador. We report a newly discovered population located in the area of La Sierra, along Río Alambi, a stream system used heavily for aquaculture of rainbow trout (Oncorhyncus mykiss). Threats to population persistence include anthropogenic habitat disturbances such as agriculture and aquaculture, and Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis infection. To improve conservation outcomes, we include notes on C. heloderma natural history, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis susceptibility, and discuss possible mitigation strategies to protect the species.

Southernmost records of Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni (Anura: Centrolenidae) https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/14988/ Check List 13(4): 67-70

DOI: 10.15560/13.4.67

Authors: Fernando K Cruz, Veronica L Urgiles, Juan Carlos Sánchez-Nivicela, David C Siddons, Diego Cisneros-Heredia

Abstract: We present new records for Fleischmann’s Glassfrog, Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni (Boettger, 1893), which extend the distribution of this species into central and southwestern Ecuador and thus represent the southernmost known localities. These new reports are based on specimens collected at Cerro de Hayas, province of Guayas, and Macul, province of Los Ríos. These new localities extend the known geographic range of H. fleischmanni by approximately 250 km south of previous known occurrences.
