Authors: Marek Semelbauer, Ján Samay, Jan Zavřel

Abstract: Four species of Diptera are recorded as new for the fauna of Slovakia: Acrocera orbiculus (Fabricius, 1787) (Acroceridae), Conops insignis Loew, 1848 (Conopidae), Hermetia illucens (Linnaeus, 1758) (Stratiomyidae), and Tolmerus cowini (Hobby, 1946) (Asilidae). The specimens were collected by means of Malaise trap, yellow pan trap, and sweep nets, in the years 2019–2022. Our findings highlight the value of the Danube floodplain from a conservation point of view. The appearance of H. illucens in Bratislava fits well with what is known about this synanthropic species.

Out of East Asia: Epermenia sinjovi Gaedike, 1993 (Lepidoptera, Epermeniidae) newly recorded from the European Alps https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/100808/ Check List 19(2): 155-161

DOI: 10.15560/19.2.155

Authors: Peter Huemer, Alfred Haslberger, Andreas H. Segerer

Abstract: Epermenia sinjovi Gaedike, 1993, a species with a hitherto westernmost known occurrence in Central Siberia, is recorded from the European Alps (Tyrol, Austria and Bavaria, Germany). Its identification is based on DNA barcodes and morphological characteristics. The probability of a recent introduction is considered as very low due to the remoteness and wild nature of the habitat, and it seems likely that the species was previously over-looked due to its similarity to Epermenia chaerophyllella (Goeze, 1783).

Discovery of Aedes (Ochlerotatus) pionips Dyar, 1919 (Diptera, Culicidae) in Germany https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/86558/ Check List 18(4): 897-906

DOI: 10.15560/18.4.897

Authors: Cornelius Kuhlisch

Abstract: A group of black-legged mosquito species within the subgenus Ochlerotatus Lynch Arribalzaga, 1891 of the genus Aedes Meigen, 1818 is difficult to identify based on their morphology. This group includes Aedes pionips Dyar, 1919, whose first record in the Erzgebirge (Germany) is reported in this study. The objective was to compile and add species specific characters for the morphological discrimination of Ae. pionips from similar mosquitoes in order to facilitate species identification. Generated cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene DNA sequences of Ae. pionips from Germany were compared to sequences from related species, using a phylogenetic tree.

Annotated checklist and biodiversity analysis of benthic fauna at Sylt Outer Reef and Borkum Reef Ground (North Sea) https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/84238/ Check List 18(3): 593-628

DOI: 10.15560/18.3.593

Authors: Sarah Joy Hahn, Angelika Brandt, Moritz Sonnewald

Abstract: Benthic fauna caught by ring dredge and 2 m beam trawl at the NATURA 2000 Sylt Outer Reef (SAR) and Borkum Reef Ground (BRG) sites in the North Sea are examined in relation to the intensity of mobile bottom-trawling fisheries. Samples were taken from 33 stations in the two areas, and the collected benthic fauna, consisting of infauna, epifauna, and demersal fish was determined. A total of 123 species were found, consisting of the phyla Chordata, Mollusca, Arthropoda, Echinodermata, Annelida, Cnidaria, and Bryozoa, with Chordata and Mollusca being the most species-rich phyla. The species compositions of BRG and SAR are relatively clearly separated. There was greater species diversity at BRG, likely due to lower fishing pressure from mobile bottom trawling than at SAR. Long-term data acquisition and analysis will be needed to visualize past and future changes in biodiversity

Rediscovery of the extremely rare running crab spider Philodromus (Artanes) poecilus (Thorell, 1872) in Bavaria, Germany, after 141 years (Araneae, Philodromidae) https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/79228/ Check List 18(3): 583-591

DOI: 10.15560/18.3.583

Authors: Tobias Bauer, Hans-Jürgen Thorns, Jürgen Guttenberger

Abstract: Philodromus poecilus (Thorell, 1872) is a Transeurasian species reported from most parts of Europe except the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula. Although widely distributed, this species is extremely rarely recorded in Germany and neighbouring countries. In Bavaria, it has not been found since the time of Ludwig Koch (1825–1908). Recently, sev-eral specimens were collected from urban plane trees in Deggendorf (Lower Bavaria), proving that the species is still present in Bavaria. Additionally, images of the copulatory organs and of living and preserved specimens are presented, as is a compilation of records in Germany and neighbouring countries.

Walckenaeria stylifrons and Spiracme mongolica (Araneae, Linyphiidae, Thomisidae), two new species to Slovakia https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/70547/ Check List 17(6): 1601-1608

DOI: 10.15560/17.6.1601

Authors: Pavol Purgat, Peter Gajdoš, Adrián Purkart, Natália Hurajtová, Ľubomír Volnár, Katarína Krajčovičová

Abstract: The spiders Walckenaeria stylifrons (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1875) and Spiracme mongolica (Schenkel, 1963) are reported from Slovakia for the first time. These new records are based on adult males found in Western Slovakia in xerothermic habitats. The occurrence of W. stylifrons in Slovakia fills the gap in its distribution in Pannonian Basin and between Austria and Ukraine. Spiracme mongolica has been known only from the Balkans and south-eastern part of Europe to central Asia, this is the first record for Central Europe. We suggest Spiracme mongolica (Schenkel, 1963) new combination for Xysticus mongolicus Schenkel, 1963. Characteristic features, photographs of habitus and copulatory organs, and habitats of the new records are presented.

Apocheiridium ferum (Simon, 1879) (Arachnida, Pseudoscorpiones, Cheiridiidae), a newly recorded genus and species of pseudoscorpion for Hungary https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/48371/ Check List 16(2): 223-228

DOI: 10.15560/16.2.223

Authors: Jana Christophoryová, Martina Červená

Abstract: The genus Apocheiridium Chamberlin, 1924 is reported from Hungary for the first time. Adults of Apocheiridium ferum (Simon, 1879) were collected under the bark of a Platanus Linné, 1753 tree in Pápa, Veszprém County. Simul-taneously, the second known European cheiridiid species, Cheiridium museorum (Leach, 1817), was found under the same bark. The differences between these two species are discussed. With the new record of A. ferum, 54 species and 21 genera are now known for the Hungarian fauna of Pseudoscorpiones.
