Abstract: A dead individual of Metamasius hemipterus (Linnaeus, 1758) was collected by a citizen scientist in Athens, Greece from a hand of imported bananas. The equatorial origin of the fruit as well as the extensive growth of a fungus on the specimen, both suggest an unintentional introduction as a contaminant. Nevertheless, this record highlights the valu-able contribution of citizen scientists in the study of alien species. Although the species is not presently considered as established in the country, citizen-science initiatives in order to raise awareness and monitor its presence are ongoing.

First report of Economidichthys pygmaeus (Holly, 1929) (Gobiidae) in Lake Lesser Prespa, Greece https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/84993/ Check List 18(6): 1249-1253

DOI: 10.15560/18.6.1249

Authors: Frank van Oosterhout, Valentini Maliaka, Kees van Bochove, Miquel Lürling

Abstract: Lake Lesser Prespa in Greece is part of the Prespa Lakes area which is a Ramsar site and a Special Protection Area due to its international importance for endemic biodiversity and migratory birds. Twenty fish taxa have been reported in that lake. From a field survey in July 2016, the species Economidichthys pygmaeus (Holly, 1929) (Gobiidae) was identified based on a molecular analysis and can be added to the list of fish species inhabiting Lake Lesser Prespa, which is the most northern location where this species has been found in Greece.

New distributional record of Anthrenus dorsatus Mulsant & Rey, 1868 (Coleoptera, Dermestidae), Thessaloniki, Greece https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/37435/ Check List 15(6): 1077-1081

DOI: 10.15560/15.6.1077

Authors: Graham J. Holloway, Dimitrios E. Bakaloudis

Abstract: Anthrenus dorsatus Mulsant & Rey, 1868 has been recorded from North Africa, Malta, and Iberia. During a recent visit to Thessaloniki, Greece, several Anthrenus species were collected, including A. dorsatus. The previously known distribution of A. dorsatus suggested that this species was restricted to the western Mediterranean basin, possibly with a coastal bias. This record extends the known range of A. dorsatus farther east and providing more evidence of range expansion in the pimpinellae species group across Europe, possibly driven by global climate change.
