Abstract
We report the first record of Pacourina edulis Aubl. from the state of Maranhão, northeastern Brazil. The species was found in seasonally flooded habitats within the Baixada Maranhense Environmental Protection Area, which is in the municipality of São Bento. A morphological description, in situ photographs, and a distribution map are presented. This new record expands the known geographic range of P. edulis in Brazil and underscores the importance of continued floristic inventories in underexplored regions of the Brazilian Amazon, especially in Maranhão.
